While VMware provides isolation from the host, WinOLS 47 cracked versions inside VMs have been known to contain remote access trojans (RATs). One famous 2023 breach saw a “WinOLS 47 VMware ready” image exfiltrate ECU tune files from dozens of professional shops.

Close VMware and open the .vmx file in Notepad. Add these lines to freeze the hardware ID:
uuid.action = "keep"
bios.uuid = "12345678-1234-1234-1234-123456789abc"
serialNumber = "VMware-1234 5678 9012 3456"
This prevents VMware from generating a new UUID each boot, which would invalidate WinOLS 47’s activation.
A tuner travels to events with a MacBook Pro (M2 Max). Running Windows on Bootcamp is no longer possible. They use VMware Fusion (ARM version) running Windows 11 ARM, which emulates x86 for WinOLS 47. Performance is surprisingly solid for map editing, though USB programming requires a J2534 bridge.
