Tutorial — Wilcom Embroidery Studio E4

Auto-digitizing a dirty JPEG will fail. Clean artwork is non-negotiable.

Pro Tip: Do not digitize from a photo with shadows. Use Photoshop or Illustrator first to create a 2-color (binary) image.

In older software, you couldn't trust the screen. In E4, hit the Render button (F5).

Even with a perfect tutorial, you will make mistakes. Here is how to fix them using E4's unique features. wilcom embroidery studio e4 tutorial

Problem: "Holes" appearing between the fill and the satin border. Solution: This is "Pull Compensation." Select your satin border. Increase Pull Comp from 0.30mm to 0.45mm. Re-render. The satin will now "spill" slightly over the fill, hiding the gap.

Problem: Stitches are trashing on the back of the fabric (birdnesting). Solution: You have too many trims. Go to Connecting > Trim. Change from "Always Trim" to "Minimize Trims." E4 will walk the stitches across the design instead of cutting, saving thread and time.

Problem: The machine goes slow over dense areas. Solution: Use the Density Map (View > Density Map). Red areas = too dense. Select that object and increase the spacing (e.g., 0.40 to 0.55). Auto-digitizing a dirty JPEG will fail

E4 handles text better than any competitor via Text & Font > TrueType Converter.

How to digitize a name:

| Tool | Icon | Use | |------|------|-----| | Object Selection | Arrow | Move/resize entire objects | | Node Editor | Pen with nodes | Adjust shape curves | | Stitch Angle | Angled lines | Change fill direction | | Lettering | 'A' | Add text (TrueType or Wilcom fonts) | | Underlay | Grid icon | Add stability beneath top stitches | Pro Tip: Do not digitize from a photo with shadows

Before you start, tell the software what fabric you are using. Go to the Control Panel (top toolbar) and select a fabric type (e.g., "Pique" or "Twill"). This automatically adjusts the underlay and density settings to prevent puckering or gaps on that specific material.

For beginners, the easiest way to create objects is using the Smart Design tools.
