Video Mesum Guru Dan Murid

The Indonesian slang PDKT (Pendekatan, or "the approach") has moved from the schoolyard to the smartphone. Teachers, often only 5-10 years older than senior high school students, use WhatsApp, Instagram DMs, or TikTok to blur boundaries. The mesum scandal rarely starts in a classroom; it starts with a salam (greeting), a motivational quote, then a late-night chat. Indonesia has one of the world’s highest social media penetration rates, yet digital ethics training for teachers remains abysmal.

The most devastating aspect of this issue is the secondary victimization by the community.

In Indonesian kampung (village) culture, malu (shame) is communal. When a "Mesum" case breaks, the victim is often sent away to a relative in another province or forced into early marriage with the perpetrator (a horrifyingly common resolution in rural areas to "fix" the family's honor).

The psychological damage is compounded by a lack of accessible mental health services. Psikolog (psychologists) are concentrated in cities, and even when available, the stigma of "Anak Korban Mesum" (child victim of immorality) prevents families from seeking help.

School counselors (Guru BK), the first line of defense, are often untrained in trauma-informed care. Their solution to suspected abuse is usually a moralistic lecture on keeping one’s harga diri (self-esteem) rather than a forensic interview.

The Ministry of Education (Kemendikbud) and Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) must mandate a "Zero Predator" certification. This includes:

In Javanese and broader Indonesian culture, a teacher (guru) is one of the three figures to be revered (guru, orang tua, pimpinan). The proverb "Guru digugu lan ditiru" (A teacher is believed and imitated) places educators on a pedestal. This reverence is a double-edged sword. When a predator wears the cloak of a guru, students are conditioned not to question their motives. A request to "stay after school for extra tutoring" or "discuss personal problems in a private place" carries the weight of an unspoken command.
