You may see websites offering a "Umax USC 5800 Windows 7 64-bit driver." These are almost always fake, malicious, or simply repackaged 32-bit drivers that will not install. Avoid:
Since official drivers do not exist, here are the three most effective paths forward:
The Umax USC 5800 is a decent CCD scanner, but it is slow (USB 1.1) and maxes out at 1200 dpi optical (interpolated to 9600). For occasional photo or document scanning on Windows 7 64-bit, VueScan is your best bet. The $50 investment is far less than buying a new equivalent scanner (e.g., Epson Perfection V39).
However, if you scan daily for business, consider upgrading to a modern scanner with native Windows 10/11 64-bit drivers. The USC 5800’s motor noise and warm-up time (up to 30 seconds) are relics of a bygone age.
Extract the ZIP file to a folder (e.g., C:\Umax_Driver).
Connect the scanner via USB (do not install software yet).
Manually install the driver:
Reboot your PC.
Test with Windows Fax and Scan or any TWAIN software.
Result: The scanner should power on and scan in basic mode.
