Once installed, verify the status: Open the SEP client GUI. If the top-left corner says "Unmanaged Client" in yellow, you have succeeded. For enterprise deployments

  • Configure local policies as prompted (scan schedules, real-time protection, firewall rules).
  • Update signature/engine via LiveUpdate or by applying local package updates.
  • Reboot if requested.

    • For enterprise deployments, administrators may deploy the unmanaged client via tools like SCCM, Intune, or scripts—ensuring silent install switches and local configuration are used.

    An "exclusive" unmanaged client installer usually comes with these distinct advantages: you have succeeded.

    Open the SEP UI (Shield icon in system tray). Click Help > Troubleshooting... Look for the line: "Server: Not Managed" or "Policy Source: Local."

    If it says "Policy Source: SEPM," you accidentally installed the managed client and must uninstall/reinstall.

    Symantec (Broadcom) does not offer a public, uncontrolled download of the unmanaged client. You cannot go to Broadcom.com and hit "Download" without a contract.

    Why "Exclusive"? The exclusivity refers to valid customer access only. Unmanaged installers are typically embedded inside the same ISO or ZIP file as the managed client. You unlock the "exclusive" ability to install it as unmanaged by using a specific command-line switch or selecting the correct radio button during setup.
