For the uninitiated, a randomizer is a program that alters a ROM’s internal code. You can change what Pokémon appear in the grass, which Pokémon trainers use, what items you find, and even the abilities or types of existing Pokémon.

In a standard playthrough, you know exactly what to expect: Hoothoot at night, Geodude in Dark Cave, and a healthy dose of grinding.
