The map is optimized for standard OMSI 2 buses, but the tight corners of the Altstadt district require maneuverable vehicles. Community favorites include:
| Bus Model | Suitability | Notes | |-----------|-------------|-------| | MAN NL263 | Excellent | Perfect for narrow streets. | | Solaris Urbino 12 | Very Good | Great balance of length and power. | | Citaro K (short) | Ideal | Best for Altstadt-Nord routes. | | Double-deckers (e.g., DL05) | Poor | Too tall for some tunnels in V5. |
Pro Tip: Use the included Ahlheim V5 new bus pack (separate download) for vehicles with custom scripts that interact with the map’s smart traffic system.
The map spans approximately 120 km of driveable road network, featuring over 30 bus lines (day, night, and express services). omsi 2 ahlheim v5 new

Since its release in 2013, OMSI 2 (Open-Source Multiplayer Interface Simulator) has survived through a robust modding community. Among the most celebrated fictional German maps is the Ahlheim series. Ahlheim V5 (New) (released 2020–2022, with updates) is not merely an expansion but a comprehensive rework of earlier versions (V1–V4). It introduces a sprawling, interconnected world centered on the fictional city of Ahlheim and its surrounding rural villages, requiring players to master complex schedules, varied road conditions, and authentic bus operations. The map is optimized for standard OMSI 2
Given OMSI 2’s poorly optimized engine (DX9-based, single-core heavy), Ahlheim V5 is demanding.

One of the biggest complaints in earlier versions was the occasional AI "freeze" at complex junctions. The V5 new update introduces a completely rewritten AI path system:
Ahlheim V5 is one of the best freeware maps for OMSI 2 – if you’re willing to track down the dependencies. It offers a believable German city, long and short routes, and much better performance than older versions. Not perfect (this is OMSI, after all), but for fans of realistic bus driving, it’s absolutely worth the download.
Recommended for: Experienced OMSI players who want a large, living map.
Not for: Beginners or those without the required add-ons.
