Why is everyone talking about the "Link" with E05? Because Mitutoyo calipers are not just standalone tools; they are part of a data ecosystem. The rectangular port on the top left of the caliper is the SPC Data Link.

When E05 appears, it is usually one of two scenarios:

On Mitutoyo digital calipers, Error E05 indicates an issue with the scale surface or the sensor's ability to read the scale.

Inside your digital caliper, a sensor reads a strip (the scale) to determine position. If the sensor cannot clearly read the strip—due to dirt, debris, or obstruction—the processor gets confused and throws the E05 code.

Essentially, the caliper is telling you: "I cannot measure accurately because my vision is blurry."

Error Code: E05

Applies to: Mitutoyo Absolute Digimatic Calipers (Series 500, 550, etc.) with ABS (Absolute) scales.

If you have tried all the steps above and the error persists, you may have a hardware failure.

In this case, you cannot fix the caliper yourself. Contact Mitutoyo Technical Support or your local authorized service center for calibration and repair.

E05 on a Mitutoyo Digimatic caliper indicates a "Reading Error" or "Counter Overflow" — typically meaning the display has reached a numerical limit, or there is a signal interference between the scale and the readhead.
