The other disciples, unable to digest this raw knowledge, took the form of Tittiri (partridges) to consume it. Hence, the recension became known as Taittirīya (of the Tittiri birds), and because the mantras and explanations were "mixed" (krishna = black or mixed), it was named the Krishna Yajur Veda.
