Players often send a massive cargo ship from the marble colony to their capital once a day. Intercept that ship 5 minutes after it leaves the harbor. You get 3,000 marble in one click.

The pirate of Ikariam is far more than a simple bandit. They are a complex, integrated system mechanic that serves as both a threat and a catalyst. The Pirate Fortress on the map offers a communal challenge and reward. The human pirate lord offers a forbidden playstyle that rejects the tedium of peacetime for the jagged thrill of plunder. Without the shadow of the Jolly Roger falling across the blue Aegean-style waters, the cities of Ikariam would grow fat, static, and isolated. The pirate, in all his digital infamy, ensures that every governor remembers one simple truth of the ancient world: Your walls are never high enough, and your harbor is never safe.


Is being an Ikariam pirate "wrong"? In the game's narrative, no. The developers added the "Plunder" mechanic specifically for this reason. However, you will be called names. You will be banned from trade forums. You will wake up to hate mail. ikariam pirate

The professional pirate embraces this. You are not ruining the game; you are providing a service. You are forcing inactive players to either quit (freeing up islands) or start playing again. You are creating a demand for defensive fleets. You are the parasite that keeps the ecosystem alive.

On higher research levels (Nautics), the Submarine becomes the ultimate pirate tool. Why? Because it is invisible to non-specialized units. Day 1: Start your capital as normal. Build Academy -> Winemakers -> Shipyard. Day 3: Research "Rams." Build 15 Ramming Ships. Attack the inactive Level 5 player on your island. Steal their wood. Day 5: Build a second colony on a "Ghost Island" (far from your capital). Send your fleet there. Day 7: Research "Ballista." Upgrade fleet to 40 Ballista Ships. Intercept your first trans-oceanic cargo shipment. You now have 10,000 marble. Day 10: Build your "Pirate Fortress" town with level 10 Hideout. Your identity is hidden. Day 14: Congratulate yourself. You have successfully abandoned the boring life of a farmer. You now live by the sword (and the Ballista).

A pirate does not attack active, heavily fortified players. You will lose your fleet and your dignity. Use the Military Adviser (or Spy Network) to find the perfect victim. Is being an Ikariam pirate "wrong"
