Q: Is the Freecom Network Storage Assistant compatible with Windows 11?
A: Not officially. However, using Compatibility Mode (Windows 8 or 7) often works. If it fails, use the Run command (\\IP_Address) method instead.
Q: I lost my CD. Can I use a generic tool? A: Yes. Any UPnP or SMB network scanner will work. Freecom’s tool is proprietary only for the "Backup Scheduler" feature. For simple file access, no special software is needed.
Q: Why does the software say "No device found"? A: Most likely because the NAS is on a different subnet (check your router), or an enabled firewall. Temporarily disable your firewall to test, then re-enable with exceptions.
Q: Can I use this software with other NAS brands (WD, Seagate, Synology)? A: No. It is specifically coded for Freecom’s hardware identifiers. It will not detect other brands.
Q: Is the software safe? The file is from 2012. A: Legacy software carries some risk. Always run it through VirusTotal before installing. If you are only moving routine media files (photos, music), the risk is low. Do not store sensitive financial data on an old, unsupported NAS.
If the Assistant cannot locate your drive, the issue is usually network configuration:
