Power on the device. You will see boot messages in the terminal.
When prompted Press any key to enter configuration... (during the first few seconds), press a key immediately to stop autoboot. You will see a BIOS> prompt.
To reset to factory defaults without reloading firmware, type: fortigate 30d factory reset full
BIOS> exec factoryreset
Confirm with y. The device will erase NVRAM and reboot.
For a complete full wipe (including corrupted partitions): Power on the device
BIOS> format bootdevice
BIOS> tftp
Use this if the reset button fails, the device is stuck in a boot loop, or you need a complete firmware reload (including bootloader reset).
If the hardware button fails (e.g., it’s broken) or you need to automate the process, the Command Line Interface (CLI) using a console cable is your best bet. This method also allows you to perform a full reset without physical button access. When prompted Press any key to enter configuration
Change the default IP from 192.168.1.99 to match your new network scheme:
config system interface
edit internal
set ip 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.0
end
If you can still log into the FortiGate 30D’s web GUI (HTTPS on port 443), use this method for convenience. However, this is not a "full" reset—it keeps the firmware image but wipes the config.
Power on the FortiGate 30D. Immediately watch the console window. You will see boot messages scroll. As soon as you see the following text, press any key within 3 seconds:
Press any key to enter configuration mode... 3
If successful, you will drop into the BIOS mode prompt: BIOS#
