The Rockchip RK3128 is a quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 SoC (System on a Chip) clocked at 1.2 GHz with a Mali-400 MP2 GPU. Released in 2014, this chip became the workhorse of ultra-budget Android TV boxes (2016–2019). It supports Android 4.4.4 KitKat up to Android 10 (though unofficially via custom ROMs). It is limited to 1GB RAM and 8GB/16GB NAND storage.

Do not download any firmware until you open the box. You must read the numbers on the actual circuit board.

How to open your MXQ EP 68:

Look for the following details on the green circuit board:

Match your findings: Search for "MXQ EP 68 RTL8723BS firmware" or "EP68 V2.0 SV6256P ROM". If you skip this step, you will brick your device.

You will need Rockchip Batch Tool or AndroidTool v2.58.

At the center is the Rockchip RK3128, a quad-core Cortex‑A7 SoC designed for cost-sensitive multimedia devices. It promises basic video decoding and networking at a fraction of the cost of higher-end chips. That price point drives decisions upstream: OEMs and ODMs prioritize getting a working image onto flash and out the door over long-term maintenance, secure defaults, or rigorous quality assurance. Here is the secret: Do not search for "MXQ EP-68." Search for the WiFi chip.

I spent three days testing bad builds. The only stable build I found for the EP-68 (with SV6051P WiFi) is a modified "AOSP 4.4.4" build dated 2018/05/21.

Note: If you have RTL8188FTV, look for "MXQ 4K RK312X RTL8188 2018."

Throw away the idea of Android 7.1 or 8.1 on this box. Anyone selling you a ROM claiming "Android 10 for RK3128" is lying. Stick to Android 4.4.4 (KitKat) or a very lean Android 6.0 (Marshmallow).

The EP-68 is not a powerhouse. It is a learning tool. If you managed to unbrick it today, congratulations—you are now officially a Rockchip technician.
