Today, LGBTQ culture is defined by its response to this crisis:
Cisgender (Cis): Someone whose gender identity matches their sex assigned at birth.
Gender expression: How one presents gender (clothing, voice, mannerisms) – distinct from identity.
Sexual orientation vs. gender identity: A trans person can be gay, straight, bi, pan, ace, etc. These are separate traits.
Intersectionality: Trans identity intersects with race, class, disability, immigration status – creating unique vulnerabilities and strengths.
