Topic: Rank of a Matrix
Definition: The rank is the maximum number of linearly independent rows/columns.
Shortcut for DCET: For 2×2 matrix, if det ≠ 0 → rank = 2; if det = 0 but non-zero element → rank = 1.
Example: Find rank of A = [[1,2],[2,4]]
Solution: det = (1×4 – 2×2)=0, but row1 ≠ 0 → rank = 1.
PYQ (DCET 2022): Rank of [[1,0],[0,0]] is? → Ans: 1
The DCET syllabus is broadly divided into two main sections, and "Notes PDFs" generally fall into these categories: dcet notes pdf
