Bloody Roar 1 Unlock Uriko May 2026

There is a lot of misinformation on old GameFAQs forums about this unlock. Some claim you need to beat the game on "Hard" without losing a round. That is false. The correct method is specific, but not brutally difficult.

The Requirement: To face and unlock Uriko, you must reach the true final boss without using a continue.

From the main menu, select Arcade Mode. This is the standard story mode where you fight opponents in a set order.

If you have attempted the arcade method ten times and keep losing to her cheap air combos, or if you are using an emulator and want to skip the grind, there is a backup. On the Title Screen (where it says "Bloody Roar" with the claw marks), hold the following combination:

For the PlayStation 1 version:
Hold L1 + R1 + Up + Triangle while pressing Start. Bloody Roar 1 Unlock Uriko

Note: This code unlocks the entire roster, including Uriko and the secret 'Devil' forms of characters. Use this only if the arcade method is proving impossible due to the PS1's unforgiving input lag.

Here is where most players mess up. After you defeat the standard final boss, the credits should roll. But because you met the "No Continue" requirement, the screen will flicker. Instead of credits, you will hear a shattering glass sound.

You are now facing Uriko.

Q: Can I unlock Uriko on a PlayStation Classic or Mini? A: Yes. The PS Classic plays the original ROM. The unlock method works identically.

Q: Why isn't Uriko in the arcade version? A: The arcade version (released in 1996) was unfinished. Uriko was added exclusively to the PlayStation port as a secret boss and unlockable character.

Q: Does unlocking Uriko affect the story ending? A: No. Beating Arcade mode with Uriko gives you her unique ending, which shows her origin story in the laboratory.

Before we dive into the unlock method, it helps to understand why she is hidden. In the Bloody Roar timeline, Uriko is the daughter of Mitsuko (the Tiger) and a scientist. She is a "test-tube Zoanthrope," meaning she was created in a lab rather than born. Because her DNA is spliced from multiple sources, she transforms into a Chimera. In Bloody Roar 1, she serves as the game’s "boss character" before the final boss (Zoanthrope Lord, or "The Beast"). She is incredibly fast, has ridiculous range on her kicks, and can juggle opponents easily. This is why players are desperate to unlock her.

If you have reached the end of the Arcade ladder without losing a match, you will fight Gado (the Lion). Upon defeating Gado, the game will acknowledge your perfect run.

While any fighter can unlock her, some make it vastly easier. Because the final stretch requires speed, avoid slow characters like Gado (Mole) or Greg (Gorilla). The best picks are:
