Windows 11’s "Controlled Folder Access" (Ransomware protection) often blocks AutoCAD from saving or autosaving .DWG files.
Solution: Go to Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Ransomware protection → Allow an app through Controlled folder access → Add acad.exe.
Let’s start with the official stance. Autodesk does not support AutoCAD 2011 on Windows 11.
Software developers typically provide support for the current version and the three previous versions. AutoCAD 2011 is now well over a decade old. Consequently, Autodesk did not (and will not) release patches or driver updates to ensure compatibility with Windows 11.
However, "not supported" does not necessarily mean "does not work." The real question is whether the software is functional enough for daily use.
Install AutoCAD to a non-system folder. Instead of C:\Program Files\Autodesk, install to C:\AutoCAD2011. This avoids Windows 11’s strict VirtualStore permissions.
