The Appeon Multi-Browser Plug-in (formerly known as the Appeon Web Component) is a lightweight browser extension that enables modern web browsers to execute PowerBuilder application logic within a web environment. It is essential for end users accessing applications deployed using Appeon’s web transformation technology.
Without this plug-in, users may see errors such as:
“Appeon Plug-in is not detected” or “This application requires the Appeon Multi-Browser Plug-in.”
Historically, the plug-in supported Internet Explorer (ActiveX), Firefox (NPAPI), and Chrome (NPAPI). As browser vendors phased out NPAPI (Google Chrome in 2015, Firefox in 2017), Appeon released newer versions: the Appeon Multi-Browser Plug-in to extend support to 64-bit browsers and provide a transitional solution. Today, depending on your Appeon version (e.g., 2017, 2019, or later), the plug-in may be replaced by the Appeon Web Component or Appeon for PowerBuilder (Mobile) .
Important Note: If you are using a modern version of Appeon (2021 or newer), the company recommends moving away from browser plug-ins entirely to their HTML5/JavaScript-based Appeon Web Component. However, many legacy installations still require the plug-in.
