The story begins five years after Ben Tennyson last wore the Omnitrix. He is no longer the ten-year-old hero; he is a mature, athletic teenager who has put his childhood adventures behind him. But peace is shattered when his grandpa, Max Tennyson, goes missing. Investigating his RV, Ben finds a holographic message: Max has been fighting a dangerous new threat, and he needs Ben to step up.

Ben attempts to put on the Omnitrix, but it recalibrates, locking his classic aliens and granting him ten new, mature forms. He realizes he cannot do this alone. He tracks down his cousin, Gwen, who has honed her magical abilities into pure pink mana, and they seek out Kevin Levin—Ben’s former nemesis. Kevin, now a street-smart teenager with the ability to absorb matter, agrees to help, albeit for his own mysterious reasons.

The trio discovers Earth is being infiltrated by DNAliens—half-human, half-alien drones. They are led by the Highbreed, an arrogant race of aliens who believe they are genetically superior and seek to cleanse the universe of "lower life forms."

Ben’s leadership is tested early on when they meet a Plumber’s kid named Magister Labrid. In a tragic confrontation, Labrid sacrifices himself to save Ben, solidifying the team's resolve. Their mission expands when Ben meets a young Pyronite boy named Alan. They learn that the Highbreed are using Hypnosis-Headgear to turn humans into DNAliens.

The stakes rise when they discover the Highbreed have established massive "Weather Towers" across the globe to terraform Earth, making it freezing and inhospitable for humans. As the team destroys towers across the country, Ben learns a shocking truth: the Highbreed are dying. Their obsession with genetic purity has made them sterile, and their "cleanup" of the universe is a final, desperate act of a dying race.

The season culminates when the Highbreed activate an immense Jump Gate in a castle in Northern California, summoning their fleet to destroy Earth. The team, alongside Max Tennyson—who returns from the Null Void to help—assault the castle. To stop the fleet, Max uses a weapon that bridges the gap between dimensions, seemingly vanishing himself into the Null Void again. Yes. While the original series is pure nostalgia, Alien Force is the The Empire Strikes Back of the franchise. It added emotional weight, serialized storytelling, and the best trio in cartoon history: Ben, Gwen, and a reformed Kevin.

The only criticism? Season 3 rushes the Vilgax arc because the network wanted to launch Ultimate Alien. But even the "weaker" episodes contain crucial lore.
