Acronis Universal Restore is a specialized feature included in Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (formerly True Image) and Acronis Cyber Backup solutions. Its primary function is to enable the restoration of a system backup image to dissimilar hardware. Existing license owners:
In standard backup recovery, restoring a disk image to a different computer often fails due to driver conflicts. The new machine has a different motherboard, chipset, storage controller (IDE, AHCI, RAID), and network adapter. When the old OS image boots, it lacks the necessary drivers and crashes with a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) (e.g., 0x0000007B – INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE).
Universal Restore solves this by injecting the appropriate Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) and storage/controller drivers during the restore process, allowing Windows or Linux systems to boot on entirely different hardware.
